This morning I walked into class at around 9:34AM. I was late and LG asked if we had an excuse to be late and my and D said no. we were supposed to write and essay about what we have memorized for prayer in Arabic and English but i think R did it wrong and only wrote the Arabic so LG gave him a lecture about that. After that I went to do wudhu so I can pray my 2 rakat (cycles) that you are supposed to do when entering a mosque to announce your presence. I did not pray fajr on time so I just did that as the 2 rakat.
When I came back, R was doing his 10 minute presentation which was about the left and right side of the brain (what they do, how they work) brain. After he finished the teachers gave him feedback and then we moved on to my presentation. My presentation was about “the past and present of boxing”. I only got 7 minutes in when I had to stop because I had no more to present. My feedback was that I needed to add more about the sport itself and less about the people in boxing.
Before I finished, a Jewish guy named B came in and observed the class for a while. After I finished, LG told H to do the four pledges. He was struggling on most of them except for the fourth and second pledges. After that he called on three other people who were:D,Z and A. They did them well but Z and A were very quiet.
When we finished with the pledges, we worked on our 2 pages of salah in English and Arabic. At the beginning I knew everything except for Surat al maun in English. After I learned the English version, I did it sentence by sentence. Now all I have to do is know it by heart and very fast.
And then the pizza came and we all ate. After everyone finished their pizza, LG’s friend came. I don’t know his name but he talked about ibni khaldon. Ibni khaldon is a famous author who wrote many books. The guy talked about how nomadic people are stronger than people who live in cities and in comfort all the time–strongweild.
Next, he told us about asabiya. Asabiya means a group or community with similar interests or beliefs. An asabiya can be good or bad depending on the intentions, actions and words of it. For example, Donald Trump created an asabiya, known as Make America Great Again (MAGA). This is a bad asabiya. An example of a good one is greenstairs. Greenstairs is an asabiya with a goal to make the world a better place and it has good intentions. He also told us that any book we choose to read will help us grow a lot.
After LG’s friend left, my dad and R’s dad came to the front of the class to say something about B. Nobody knew who he was or why he was in our class before S and M told us that he is a jewish guy trying to find out more about islam. On Friday he contacted the mosque and asked to come to the class to see. He asked S and R the hardest question ever in their opinion: “where do I start?”. He also asked what the rituals are that we have to do, how many times we pray in a day, what we have to memorize. S told him that “you have to start with the belief, before the rituals.” (B.R.) .
LG noticed that a lot of people looked tired and sleepy so he asked if we ate our food fast. I did and did feel sleepy after. He explained that this is called a glycemic load. If you chew or swallow too fast, your body gets confused and that is what makes you sleepy.
When he was done explaining, Z(2) did her presentation about algebra. The feedback she got from teachers and students was that she should add slides so we can know when the new topic is starting and that she needed to go off of bullet points and not just read from her screen. I personally thought it was very good and it had such a nice vocabulary in it.
And finally, H presented. His presentation was “all about parrots”. I thought he said pears the whole time until LG said parrots. I thought all the information was about pears and I was so confused. The feedback he got was that he needs to connect his slides to the TV so we can have a better time focusing and taking in the information. He also needed to stop moving so much and have a contrast in his tone while talking about more interesting stuff and other things.
And with that, it was 1:30 already. Z(2) vacuumed and then everybody went hom
