R.A 15 M 5/3/26 – Mother’s Day letter

Dear Mama,
I just wanted to wish you on this happy Mothers Day; a great, lovely, and peaceful day. I know important and known people get paid a lot of respect and are given a day to observe.

Had the world paid more attention to mothers worldwide and what they go through and their sacrifices, I assure you, a day is not enough.

In general, mothers carry so much more value than they are perceived. As mothers are the foundational backbone of not only the community they live in, but worldwide. See, it is said to be that a successful person can reach their potential if his wife supported him. However, in my own opinion, a successful person, and a great wife, can only reach their potential if they are raised right by their mother. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are exceptions to every generalization. Mothers are known to love their kids long before they see them. From the moment they know they are pregnant; their heart beats with love and eagerness to see their baby. They stop focusing on what they eat, drink, the way they sleep for a period of generally nine months. Let alone the struggle of which many pregnant women go through as well as the harsh labor in order to give birth. These factors alone are just few of many sacrifices before the baby is even born.

Now mama, with all that considered, I truly appreciate and acknowledge all of these sacrifices of which have known, but I am so sure that there are many; if not, more that I still don’t know of. There are many times of which I have seen you cry after your prayers and I came and asked, “Mom why do you cry?” And you tell me, “Baby don’t worry, I am not crying because I am in pain, or because I am going through a hardship. I am crying to God, to make you and sister successful in this life and the hereafter.” This has resonated in my head for years, but it started to be much more clear as I got older to have a better understanding of what you truly mean. I do not take it for granted to see how much stress you go through when you know I have a big test coming up in school, or if I have a fever and am just not feeling well. It seems as if you share our pain and you truly live our joyful moments.

I do apologize for the many times I unappreciated decisions you have made for us such as not letting us play out late at night, not hang out with the “cool kids” in the neighborhood, or when you privatize things that I did not think were necessary. As I grow older, I do see the results of every decision that you have made, and I could also see the effect of those decisions that the mothers of the “cool kids” in the neighbor made. Alhamdulillah, as a blessed Muslim Son, I see how Islam has profoundly glorified the mother in Islam. I do remember the Hadith where a person walked up to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and asked, “Who is best worthy of my companion ship?” The prophet replied, three times in a row, “Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother, and then your dad. This alone shows how important you are. I will not even get into how many times the mothers played an important role in the Quran throughout the many Surahs.

Mama, I would not be lying to you if I tell you that our lives in this family revolve around your presence. From the simplest doctor’s appointment, to planning our vacations, to making sure there is breakfast, lunch, or dinner available. Rest assured, your sacrifices of which you made with pure love do not go unnoticed. Even if we try to pay the proper gratitude pertaining to everything you do for us, we will always fall short. That is because your unconditional love surpasses any type of appreciation.

When I first thought of writing this letter, I was unsure of where to start or how to end it. However, as I started typing this letter, I could visualize the many different interactions play right before my eyes; and they were innumerable times. I am truly so blessed to have a mother and I am truly lucky to have you as my mother. May Allah grant you Jannat Al-Firdous for everything you have done for us.

Yours truly,
RA
