JS-F-14-KJMS week 22 5-3-26
When class started I did a breathing exercise for two minutes to “mentally prepare” to be focused during salah and then went to the bathroom to do wudu and as i was finishing up, my dad came and told me that LG said to come back to the classroom and that i should’ve done it at home and i agree with the fact that i should’ve done wudu at home but i didnt even get the chance to pray fajr because LG made me come back to the classroom.
The teacher asked us what 2 special days/events occur in May this year. One of them is hajj/eid and the other one is mother’s day. He asked what kind of love our parents have for us and the answer is unconditional love. No matter what we do they might be sad or disappointed because of it but they will never stop loving us. It is confusing to me because what if i beat my mom? Why would she still love me? If I were to rob my parents and destroy their home would they still love me? I don’t think so but apparently they would just be disappointed and try to “do what’s best for me.” instead of just saying “i love you” to our moms we should say “i love you always” because this shows how you will never stop loving her. Putting your dog down is much more of an easier task than killing your child and this is most likely a universal opinion. Killing your child isn’t even an option most of the time. Even when they are suffering, you wouldn’t kill them.
Mother’s day and all of the other non-religious holidays were created as marketing tactics but are now commonly celebrated in our society. Some very religious people who only do what the prophet muhammed was said to do back in his time say that mother’s day and those kinds of holidays are biddah (meaning something that the prophet didn’t do). An example of a biddah that is accepted by most people is reading the Quran from a phone. The prophet didn’t do it but it’s likely that nobody is going to tell you to stop reading the Quran just because it’s on your phone.
When the prophet lived in Mecca there was only the basics in islam and then when the prophet moved on to the madinah phase of the quran, he gave all the details of islam and how to go about specific things.
On eid al-adha it is a tradition to slaughter a sheep and eat it after the hajj period is over because of the story of prophet Ibrahim, his wife, handmaiden and children. Sarah (wife) had fertility issues and was unable to have Ibrahim’s child so she gave him permission to have a kid with the handmaiden (hajar) and so he did. After she gave birth to Ismael, his wife complained that he was spending too much time with Hajar so she told him to leave her. When they were on a trip somewhere near Mecca, Ibrahim told Hajar that they were leaving her and she said “if thats what your god told you to do then I accept it.” and so they left her with the baby and no food or water so she ran between two mountains called safa and marwa looking for people to help her find food or water. When she was searching, water suddenly started coming out of the ground called zam zam water.
When Ismael was around 17 years old, Ibrahim had a dream that told him to sacrifice his child to Allah. He was very hesitant but he took ismael somewhere away from his wives and ismael said “if this is what allah told you to do, then kill me.” and so he brought the blade or whatever he was using to ismael’s neck and as he was about to kill him, angel jibril showed up and told him to stop. He brought a ram with him and told Ibrahim to sacrifice the ram instead because it was just a test. This teaches us to always trust Allah no matter what.
After we finished discussing these stories we went on a field trip to a graveyard. I learned that in islam, they don’t use coffins and instead bury them directly into the ground. In a muslim graveyard they just put the name and the date and don’t have an option for any additional things on the tombstone because to them, they are just waiting for the next person in line so they can bury them. We saw crypts with people’s names and faces or symbols that represent them and on one of the graves that I saw, there were pictures engraved on the tombstone for the person. One of the nameplates I saw said that they died in 1929 and that’s the earliest death that I noticed.
When we got back we talked about the people from the church group that came last class and how they don’t memorise things like we do and they are very similar to how us students were before greenstairs. It was very helpful that we know the translation of what we say in prayer so that they could actually have an understanding of what we are saying instead of it being gibberish to them since they don’t know Arabic.
There are three types of halal. The first one is anything that isn’t pork or any of the impermissible foods in islam and saying bismillah before eating. The second version is zabihah halal this is when it is slaughtered by hand and in Allah’s name. The third one is when it is machine cut but they play an audio of someone saying bismillah eat time the machine cuts the meat.
We took a 3 minute break because we seemed very sleepy and as if we were about to fall asleep. When the break was over IUHIBHUHB said that when he was around 15 there was a quote that made him bawl his eyes out. The quote was “ I saw the prophet used to eat chicken.” This goes to show how much the people in prophet muhammed’s time loved him to the point where they would get reminded of him just by something that was a habit of his. I didn’t really see how that would make a whole classroom cry but maybe it’s because he said he explained it in a different way than his teacher did.
After we were dismissed my parents couldn’t pick me up at the time so as we waited for LG to finish praying so he could take us home, we put away trash and chairs until he finished and me and CH went home.
