(These notes are mostly unedited and represent a GISLA students understanding of the previous class the attended.) Student attend class on Sunday and submit their essay of what they learnt before the next class. Interestingly, as can be seen below the same class yields different lessons for each student even though the content of the class they hear was the same.)
Students graduate level 1 IF and WHEN they pass the Level one exam (some do it in 6 weeks and some take 3 years and counting…) and students from anywhere in the world can test out to pass and earn the GISLA Level one trophy)
Notes for my first class attend march 30 submitted April 5 2019 Male 36 Here’s what I learned in our class last Sunday: (Editors notes are in italics – This is his first visit to a this class and as of this writing he is searching … )
I was able to learn the most basic steps in the salah, the positions for the body and the different rakat. I was able to memorize some of the prayers in English and some in both English and Arabic.
I started getting a better idea of your overall approach to the class and the students, and I was very happy with it.
But to be honest, the biggest thing I got out of the class was in the beginning, after our meditation. You had us stay in sujood and try to feel the presence of God.
I’m not sure exactly what I felt, but I can tell you I had tears in my eyes and it felt like something that I can only begin to describe as awe and amazement.
I’ve never felt that before in my life, and the rest of the day I was walking on a cloud. The best I could come close to describing it is the feeling you have when you first fall in love, how you’re constantly thinking about your lover and can’t think of anything else, and thinking about your lover just makes you feel good.
The feeling ended up fading somewhat during the week, especially with the demands of wife and kids and job, etc. muscling in.
I have been doing my wudu and prayers, and I have almost the whole Fatiyah memorized in Arabic, but I have not felt that feeling again since Sunday.
