I have had the chance to explore so many different topics. Every week brings something new and interesting, and I always find it engaging to connect what we learn to real life. It definitely made my Sunday school more meaningful and fun.
When I first walked into Sunday school that day, the first thing I saw was students checking their notes and testing each other to make sure they knew what they were supposed to know. Some were quietly practicing by themselves while other students were testing. After that, most of the day we spent going over the double-sided sheets. These sheets had all the prayer steps and surahs written in both Arabic and English. We went through them slowly, line by line, repeating the words until they felt familiar. A lot of people kept flipping their paper back and forth, whispering the rows under their breath so they could get them right.
Later on, a big part of the day was the student presentation. Everyone had a different topic, which made the room feel lively. Some students talked about soccer. Others talked about wrestling and the different rules there are and how to play. One student even talked about the James Webb Telescope, which I thought was really interesting.
After the presentations, our teacher started teaching us a bunch of new ideas. He introduced almost 20 different concepts, like the green stairs, the four pledges, and universal values. We also learned how the Quran is organized: it’s divided into 30 parts and has 114 surahs. That helped us understand why memorizing small pieces at a time is important. He explained the revelation process, saying that the Quran was sent down over 23 years and two phases. The way he explained it wasn’t boring or confusing. He talked about it like he was telling a story, which made it easier to follow and remember.
Towards the end of the lesson, we also talked about how women were treated in the past. Back then, a lot of people saw women as burdens, even though that wasn’t true at all. They didn’t respect them because women couldn’t fight or go into battles like men, and fighting was a really big deal at that time. Since they aren’t able to fight, people saw no use in nurturing them and taking care of them. People judged women because they only saw what they couldn’t do instead of seeing their real worth, which made life really unfair back then.
Another thing our teacher talked about was the three main messages we should always remember. The first message was to believe in Allah. The second was understanding the consequences of turning away from Him. And the third was to know the signs behind Islam. He made all three messages simple to understand by giving examples and asking us questions so we could think about them ourselves.
Finally, before class ended, our teacher gave us a lesson on gratitude. He told us to always be thankful for what we have, even if it feels small. To explain this, he used the example of Stephen Hawking. He said that Hawking had one of the smartest minds in the world, but he also had a disability that made life extremely hard. Even though he couldn’t move much or speak normally, he still used what he had and became someone the world will always remember. That example made the lesson stronger, because it showed how important it is to appreciate the things we do have instead of always wishing for more.
Overall, that day in Sunday school taught me a lot. From memorizing surahs, to listening to everyone’s presentation, to learning new lessons about faith, history, and gratitude, I left feeling like I really gained something. It wasn’t just another regular class. It helped me see things start differently and understand more about my religion and myself. I walked out feeling thankful, and ready to learn even more next week.861msFast
